Internet of Things (IoT) Range Extender Tool
Skyworks wireless front‑end modules are used in a wide range of SoC platform reference designs to demonstrate how system‑level RF performance can be extended beyond an SoC‑only implementation. While these designs highlight specific platforms, Skyworks FEMs are inherently SoC‑agnostic and can be connected to virtually any radio using standard RF interfaces and general‑purpose I/O control.
With that flexibility in mind, the tool below helps you identify the best Skyworks FEM to pair with your preferred SoC in order to extend wireless range and improve link margin. Simply select your wireless protocol and SoC to view compatible devices and estimated range performance.
Assumptions
- When a Skyworks FEM is used, the SoC transmit power is reduced to a suitable drive level.
- Path loss model: Based on Friis (FSPL) with path loss exponent n = 2 (Line of Sight (LOS)) and n = 3 (simplified Non-LOS)
- PAE: Value shown is valid at FEM Max TX Power
- Sensitivity: Representative receiver sensitivity values are used for each protocol (e.g., Bluetooth −96 dBm, Zigbee/Thread −100 dBm, Wi-SUN −105 dBm, LoRa −124 dBm)
- Disclaimer: Results are for informational and relative comparison purposes only. Performance is modeled and not all SoC/FEM combinations have been characterized in a complete system.
